You'd be the person to ask (unless any band members or others want to chip in). What's the musical difference between the original 'scrapped' version of the album and the current one? A few bars and all that. I don't see a huge amount of difference, apart from the fact that the strings don't sound authentic at all on the finished version compared to the original.

Slight point perhaps but, as good as some of the songs are, the strings sound terrible and possibly synthetic.

I've not had a listen to the released album yet but I own the demo. I'll comment on this thread at a later date once my copy arrives.

I don't see what the band would want to improve upon in the first place. It's a brilliant piece of musical textures, melody and lyrics.

How the fuck did you get into University? :) Texture!!

The brass is very good on both. Utterly contradicts but betters any string designs.

Nope, strings were not touched at all - no electronic stuff. Do you really think, after paying out for a quality orchestra, they are then going to use electronics - get real! Perhaps cotton buds for ear cleaning might be required.

I think some people here are just looking for differences that aren't there. The delay was probably for adding "I Am the Resurrection", as the CDs would need to be pressed, artwork altered etc.

In all honesty I don't notice anything different. I don't have much of a musicians ear for that kind of thing though. iTunes timings are all the same too.

After several listenings, I'm not convinced anything is different between recordings. Musically it all sounds the same as far as my ear can tell. As entwistlefromthewho said, it's probably the addition of the I Am the Resurrection track.

As you were so cheeky Brian L, I thought, then thought and then thought again to reply. Cotton buds are the worst things anyone can put in their ears without causing punctured eardrums. Health rant over!

On the strings, they did not sound good on the streams that I heard at the time, so why stream them anyway? Now that I have the CD and the quality is so much better, I still think the strings could have sounded even better, the exception being 'Nevada'. I've heard albums that have had far better strings..even in a quartet! I'm only an honest Joe, Brian. Defending your territory is ok, but I have a place myself that resembles a small Abbey Road - ie - I know sound :)
